What to Wear to Your First Reformer Pilates Class
Your first reformer Pilates class is easier to enjoy when your outfit stays secure and lets you move without distraction. You do not need a complicated studio wardrobe. A few practical choices make a big difference.
Choose a fitted top
A fitted tank or sports bra stays closer to the body during footwork, bridging and plank variations. Loose tops can shift as you move through positions.
If you prefer to train in a bra rather than a tank, our Pilates sports bra guide explains support, strap styles and fit for reformer movement.
Wear bottoms you can move in
High-rise leggings are a reliable choice because they offer coverage through a wide range of movements. Bike shorts can also work well in warm weather.
Check how the waistband feels when seated
The waistband should feel secure without digging in. Sit, bend and twist in the outfit before class to see whether it rolls or needs adjustment.
Add grip socks
Many reformer studios require or recommend grip socks. Check your studio's policy before you arrive.
Keep layers light
A fitted long sleeve or lightweight jacket is useful before and after class. You usually want to remove bulky outerwear before getting onto the reformer.
A simple first-class formula
Try high-rise leggings, a fitted tank, grip socks and a light layer for the walk to and from the studio.
